15 PAIRS OF THOSE SHOES PLEASE.

I’m buying shoes for everyone this Christmas.

How could I not? They’ll love them, I’m sure. So, they might not be the comfiest shoes around, but look at them – are they not fabulous? Look at them. Just look. How to choose, how to choose.

Plus I learnt a great tip the other day; pop a comfy insole into these little gems, and they magically transform into super comfy little slip ons. But, oh. How does one choose. DSC_0137souq 2

And then the spices. I’m so intrigued by the colours and the aromas, yet I wouldn’t have a clue where to start. Next time I visit, I will plan ahead and bring a super awesome curry recipe, and buy whichever spices I need for that particular dish. souq 3 There were pashminas in every colour and pattern you could possibly imagine, from all around the world, varying in price depending on their quality and origin, bikinis with fancy patterns and crazy mannequins, nighties your inner Bridget Jones would die for, beautifully embroidered shawls, and of course a few “we sell everything including natural viagra and snail hair growth ointment”. Nice.

I came home empty handed, but felt souk’ed out, none-the-less. I could spend hours with my camera, wondering up and down, and through and around, the narrow alleyways that form the Spice Souk and Gold Souk and the everything in between souks of Deira. souq 4 soug7DSC_0154souq 5

THE WEEKEND IS HERE. AND IT FEELS GOOD.

Don’t you agree? Whether you’ve had a hectic and trying week, a calm week, or just a plain normal week, the sound of those Friday bells ringing feels pretty nice, ey?

For us the weekend signals family time. Get stuff done time. Stay in your pyjamas till late morning time. Visit friends time. Enjoy a glass of wine time.

Wind down, and recharge time.

What does the weekend mean to you? Have you got plans?

The snow is finally, finally melting, in Oslo. The butterflies are out and spring IS here. No, really, this time it really is. This week has been… challenging. To say the least. Still, Mum is flying over to see us this weekend, so we’re good.

Dubai is heating up. This week has been HOT. And they tell me this is nothing compared to how hot it will be getting… long live a fully functioning A/C system, and a long European holiday this summer.

A few links from around the web that caught our attention this week:

Dove’s beauty campaign continues to inspire and educate us, and this brought tears to my eyes when watching it. Every woman should watch this. “Only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful … we decided to conduct a compelling social experiment that explores how women view their own beauty in contrast to what others see.

We are in awe of these stunning, yet frightening images. They’re completely amazing.

And this quirky and cool duo, have us laughing…. a lot. They are full of brilliant ideas and, you know,  quirky!

Have fun this weekend you lovely people, you.

HAVE A BEAUTIFUL WEEKEND weekend12.4 A few links for your weekend read:

Gorgeous, lovely little girl’s room. I love the curtain!

Grapefruit yoghurt cake for the weekend, anyone? YES, please. Sounds delicious.

These grilled nectarines look too good to pass too! What are your plans for the weekend?

In Dubai I have nachos and a beer waiting for me, and The Hobbit. Can’t wait.

And in Oslo? Puppy cuddles all weekend long! w15aPicMonkey Collage Camilla and Louisa xoxo

EASTER MEMORIES 2012
IMG_0248Easter last year was in mid April. In Oslo things were milder, jackets were off, and wooly hats were long forgotten! Still, one thing remains the same: Egg Hunt followed by Easter Candy bonanza (and 10 minutes of quiet rest for sleep deprived grown-ups – so worth it)!

Easter last year was mid – April. Cold. Way, waaay colder than this year. We swapped our stripey hat and hoodie for bikinis and trunks at this year’s egg hunt, in Dubai. IMG_0170Will the Easter bunny visit you this year? Happy egg hunting, friends!

HI THERE

Oooh, how VERY exciting to see so many new friends! Welcome, come join in the fun – after all “If you like us, we like you.”

We’re not very complicated like that.

If you’d like to get to know us better, here’s a good place to start. Or, here actually. Or, maybe here?

Louisa and the Oslo crew flew back to Norway last night. And oh, how I miss them already. I set myself (ourselves!) a new goal today. At some stage in life, we’re going to all live next door to each other. Or at least down the road from one another, or in the same city.

This whole 7 hour flight malarkey, living in different countries, and different time zones? Way too overrated.

dance onDSC_0258So this is us. Best of Two Sisters. Keeping calm, and dancing on – making the most of life, of time spent together, and time spent apart. When life hands you lemons, make some lemonade. Or, a lemon drizzle cake. Or, just stick ‘em in a bowl and admire their colour. Lemons can be pretty cool, too.

Thank you for stopping by our little space, hope you’ll stay a while – we’d LOVE to get to know you.

A LITTLE LATE LOVE

Hope you all had a super nice Valentines Day yesterday. We don’t tend to go huge on Valentines celebrations or gifts, but instead made a scrumptious breakfast, enjoyed a fun day with friends, more pool time with the fab five, finishing off the big looove day with an awesome late night BBQ in our backyard – giant king prawns, tasty chicken and a marvellous salad… avocado, mango, spinach, grilled halloumi and raspberries. Basically, love on a plate, right?

Breakfast duties are calling me! Have a fruity day, lovelies.

GLORIOUS WEEKEND AND LET’S START A COUNTDOWN

Tick tock, I think it is more than OK to start an official countdown now till the Oslo crew land in Dubai. Four days, people! That’s like.. well, less than a week. And we could not be more excited!

Too soon to make the beds up? Nah. It dawned on me that not only will they be here to celebrate a special little lady’s first birthday, but also Valentines Day. I feel a few heart shaped cookies or cakes are essential. Before then though, there’s a weekend to be enjoyed, bikes to ride, a little friends birthday to celebrate, over-indulge on weekend pancakes to, work to catch up on and a week full of memories with Greats- & Grandparents visiting to look back on and smile.

DOWN BY THE CREEK WE GODSC_0097At the weekend we visited Dubai Creek, the natural seawater inlet that cuts through the centre of the city. The water is busy with Abras (water taxis) ferrying passenger up and down and across and back again, while old, beautifully coloured dhows lined up along the creek, are busy loading and unloading traded goods from as far as India and East Africa.

Along our route we stumbled across hidden gems, and captivating colours. On second thoughts, maybe they weren’t so hidden at all. Maybe they spotted me, The Tourist, a mile off and quickly brought our their best lanterns and finest spices, at “Very good prices for you Madam”. creek 2DSC_0095creek 3creek 1Somewhere between admiring the rose painting on a particular dhow, smelling gorgeous, strong spices and wiping the black chewing gum I stood in off my sandal, Jono asked me, with a hopeful look upon his face ; “Would you fancy living on one of those one day?”

Such a dreamer.

WHO DO YOU LOOK LIKE?

People are often curious to find out who kids look like. “Who’s eyes are those?” they’ll ask, or “Where did she get that nose from?”

I never really know with mine. A bit of both, I guess, with a good sprinkling of their grandparents genes too, but mostly they just look like themselves.

Except when she makes this face.

Then she most definitely looks like her Mamma.
