A PORTRAIT OF MY CHILDREN, EVERY WEEK, FOR THE NEXT 52 WEEKS
Inspired by The 52 Project
Finley: He preferred watching Daddy chop up the wood for their camping trip from inside, as the chainsaw was so noisy. When they returned he told me he’d held a stick up in the air “With real fire on it, and I didn’t get burnt, I’ll show you.”
Sienna: I thought she’d been asleep in her pushchair for over half an hour today, when she suddenly appeared in the garden, smiling ear to ear. Apparently she now knows how to wriggle out of her straps and climb out of her pushchair, no worries. I tried again, same thing happened after two mins. I tried again. And again. And then gave up.

I am so glad I decided to take part in The 52 Project this year, inspired by Jodi. I’ve spent most of this week in bed, sick with strep, and as a result this week has been dull. Dull, dull, dull and quite painful, too.
That’s what it felt like, at least. Until I looked through the photos on my camera, and it was full of snapshots of the kids. Just them, playing, drawing, relaxing, smiling, thinking. And then me, behind the camera; pale, clammy fever hair stuck to my forehead, quiet and probably feeling ever so sorry for myself. But, they look so happy. So content. After a week like we’ve just had, I was worried there wouldn’t be a single photo of the kids I’d want to use. And yet, there were several. I struggled to choose. It sounds a little heroic. It was not. It was grim for the most part, but the photos I have from this week tell a completely different tale.
And that whole strep-o-tonsilitis-doo-ditis-pompitis thingy? Pales into the background, like some dull, insignificant, minor detail.
Next week? Onwards and upwards, clapping my hands like a room without a roof all the way yes.
Hope you’ve had a good one, friends! Stay healthy.
